A pretty good effort to restore and colourize archival footage. The Hindenburg was designed to to use inert helium gas instead of explosively flammable hydrogen gas for buoyancy. The only large scale source at the time was the Linde Corp. in America, and the US government refused to allow its export to Nazi Germany, fearing Zeppelin bombing raids like WW1. At least, that's how I understand it. Had they agreed, the Lakehurst, NJ disaster would not have happened. That pretty much killed off the airship for decades, although I believe there is some sort of small scale revival happening now. Ironically today, where we are concerned with GHG damage to the upper atmosphere, airships may make more sense. They don't need the energy of heavier than air craft just to climb and stay in the air, but operationally they are still subject to wind and weather limitations. Thanks for this video. I’m always mystified by the achievements of lesser humans. There must have been Jews secretly responsible for the real engineering. Комментарий от : @mkunes2502 |

There's REALLY a non zero chance that the Hindenburg was destroyed by the deep state, they're shameless Комментарий от : @emericmellot6140 |
Lovely but flawed design. Plaything for the rich and later hijacked by the Nazi party. Комментарий от : @andrewlong6438 |
Enjoyed this thx. How did they navigate at night, when over the ocean in bad weather? They did not have GPS back then. And did they have life boats on board? Cheers Комментарий от : @Fuff63 |
Would have been fantastic to ride on that ship Комментарий от : @moparmadman1134 |
I know how to speak fluently three languages but only a few words in german. Why not to make it in english or at least subtitle it in english as it would bring a broader range of viewers. Too bad: it looked to me interesting but I had to drop it unfinished. Комментарий от : @fpostolache |
I think at 2:10 box champion MAX SCHMELING can be seen waving his hat. Комментарий от : @adrianwalker2833 |
I agree with most of the comments here, could be made faster, bigger and safer but no country would endorse it. The reason: the invention had Hitlers paws all over it plus Nazism, so did Mercedes and the Volkswagen Beetle one may say but two great big swastikas on a airship lasts longer on the memory and so do the horrors they represented. I had a nun in the 7th grade, 1980 Brooklyn, who remembered watching it fly over NY when she was a child. Комментарий от : @mikefagan6840 |
My father remembers as a child in the West Country of England, being up climbing trees, as children do, when one of these German airships came overhead. This was sometime in the 1930s, he said it was an amazing sight and quite scary. I understand later stories was that it was mapping out the area for later events, which we all know about. Incredible to think that these silver giants roamed the skies at one time. How surreal and amazing would it have been live in those times to look up and see these monsters flying over you. I remember the Good Year blimps flying around very well as a kid in the 80's and how awesome they were to see flying over and they would of only been wee small balloons compared to the Hindenburg and Graf Zeppelin! Комментарий от : @seandoherty8754 |
One day I'll live in a blimp, built like a spaceship. Free of earthly real estate taxes, HOA's and able to go from A to B at will in a spacious ship. Besides if I have a date what cooler thing to say than... come with me to fly a bit. Комментарий от : @nereanim |
This is the way to travel on air!!! Not on those tiny planes ✈️ that we have now where everyone have to sit down in small spaces or walking on a row!! We need the Zeppelin back!! Комментарий от : @ALEXMGFASHION |

These airships The Graf Zeppelin and Hindenburg needed about 60 hours from New York to Germany Комментарий от : @ealamin |
At around 60mph cruising speed it was almost 3 times faster that transatlantic ships. It was also cruising at only 300m altitude which was cool for sightseeing. Downsides, the cabins were cold and would smell gas. Look up for USS Akron footage, which was almost double the volume of the Hindenburg Комментарий от : @Peppermint1 |
man, what i wouldn't do to see enormous airships in the skies again Комментарий от : @Simon-nb3ne |

This is a mix of film of Graf Zeppelin 1, designated LZ127, (1928) and the Hindenburg LZ129 (1936) and LZ130 Graf Zeppelin 2 (1937 approx). The one the flew around the world and was most famous in its day was the pre-Nazi LZ127. Eckener, the CEO of Luftshiftbau design factory was very much against the Nazis and tried to prevent having a swastika on LZ127. When forced by the Nazis to do so, he had it painted only on one side of the tail fin, and flew the ship in a manner at the world's fair in Chicago where the swastika was less visible. Eckener was later was made a 'non-person' by the Nazis and not allowed to assume command of the Hindenburg, which was the propaganda flagship of the Nazis, As a result, Eckener wasn't aboard the Hindenburg when it burst into flames. As the most experienced airship pilot, it might not have happened at all, if Eckener had been at the helm. The earlier ship, Graf Zeppelin 1, usually under his command, made over 400 cross Atlantic trips without incident or injuries. Can't speak for the later Hindenburg footage, but the Graf Zeppelin 1 footage is definitely colorized. There is some footage here I haven't seen and I'm very glad to see it. Thank you for the compliation, Rick8888! Комментарий от : @royalmason1539 |

Комментарий от : @LeutnantRackow |
